Asecurity guard was tied up and ‘robbed’ of £7m in an “inside job” worthy of a Hollywood script, a court has heard.
Loomis van security guard Ranjeev Singh and driver Mohammad Siddique were transporting cash belonging to Credit Suisse from the BA cargo depot at Heathrow Airport to the Bank of Ireland.
Jurors at Kingston Crown Court heard they picked the money up at around 8.30am and that a short time later, Singh got out of the van to go to the toilet. When he came out Siddique had driven off with the £7million in cash.
Instead of raising the alarm Singh waited for 20 minutes and “nonchalantly” smoked a cigarette, before telling colleagues in another van what had happened.
Meanwhile, the prosecution allege that Siddique was helping to shift the cash into a waiting car before being tied up and dumped in a remote area nearby, Kingston Crown Court was told. He was found a few hours later tied up in a remote area near Gerrard’s Cross.
